Private tutor in Pittsburgh, PA

Education

William Jessup University - BA, English (emphasis in creative writing), 2013, GPA: 3.87, Summa Cum Laude University of Pittsburgh - MFA, Creative Writing (poetry track), 2017 (forthcoming)

Experience

I tutored other undergraduates for two semesters between my junior and senior year at William Jessup University. The year in between undergrad and grad school, I worked a handful of substitute teaching jobs over the course of a few months, including a few English classes. My first year at the University of Pittsburgh, I worked as a writing tutor for the university's athletic department, while also doing proofreading, bibliographic work, and research for a member of the faculty. I am continuing to work for this professor this academic year. Across my undergraduate and graduate course work, I have taken classes on American and British literature, Shakespeare, literary theory/criticism, humor, and creative writing. I want to be an English tutor both to continue prepping myself for a potential future in academic teaching, but also to use my abilities generatively in the Pittsburgh community, to share what I have learned and am continuing to learn. I love poetry and am interested in what drives our creative processes while writing. Because I am invested in the process of writing--and not just the finished product--I believe I am well-equipped to help others along in their journeys as writers.

Hobbies

I'm originally from the foothills of Northern California, close to the Sierra Nevadas. I enjoy the outdoors, biking, cooking, watching and talking about movies, and, of course, reading and writing poetry. Since moving to Pittsburgh, I find myself frequenting the museums, libraries, parks, and Phipps Conservatory. Not being from a big city (however you define "big"), I am still getting acclimated to the crazy driving, bus system, and being on foot.
