Experience
My academic background includes a bachelor's from Penn State University Park in Composition and Speech, and graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, where I am working on my master's in Social Work. For the last decade, I have worked as an adjunct professor, youth mentor, and tutor. Perhaps my most unique experience came in the Utah deserts. I was on staff with a wilderness therapy program, working as a staff trainer, youth mentor, and field guide for more than 500 nights. My philosophy of tutoring and teaching is that the goal should be to grow the student's body and mind. They should become self-confident, balanced, and critical thinkers. Gaining knowledge is a secondary goal. I understand first hand some of the challenges with learning, as I dealt with the impact of ADHD growing up, and had to learn different techniques to work through all the challenges. That's why I am such an advocate of creating a positive, fun, and creative learning environment.
