Experience
I received a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with an emphasis on Fiction and Poetry from the University of Pittsburgh. As a graduate fellow at Pitt, I also taught freshman English Composition and tutored in the writing center. In the writing center, I assisted freshmen through graduate students across a wide range of disciplines. Good writing skills are a key element in the success of any student, regardless of subject area. Later, I held adjunct teaching positions at Jefferson Community College Duquesne University, and the University of Pittsburgh, primarily teaching English Composition and Business Writing, and served as an administrator at Pitt, as well. In addition, I taught Creative Writing to junior and senior high school students through the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project. I also have extensive legal writing experience, having worked for several years as a paralegal. My approach to teaching involves an exchange with students, with equal contribution. Questioning plays an important role in discovering the direction of your writing. Outside of work, I'm an avid reader, usually completing at least one novel each week. I have a particular interest in 20th Century American writers.
