I worked full-time doing research at the Learning Research and Development Center (University of Pittsburgh) after graduating in 2012. The research focused on the structure of arguments, relevance of evidence, and quality of academic writing and APA style in students’ scientific writing.
Additionally, I was awarded grant funding for my independent research exploring relationship between gender, word use, uncertainty and performance in student writing.
ExperienceI was trained to tutor through coursework and an internship at the University of Pittsburgh, tutored in their writing center for two years, and now work with clients independently. I have worked with high-school level and younger, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional clients with diverse backgrounds and goals.
I offer experienced one-on-one professional consultation, academic preparation, editing, and tutoring in a variety of subjects with an emphasis on writing. I specialize in academic and professional preparatory work--college and special program entrance essays, resume, cover letter and curricula vitae writing and design, and editing--as well as academic coursework, and professional communications (including web-writing).
My method is to demystify the learning and synthesis processes by breaking down assignments and goals into manageable tasks.

Matthew has been tutoring my son to help him improve his SAT scores. Matthew has been prompt, respectful, engaging and, most importantly, an EXCELLENT teacher. He has reached my son on an academic level that I have not seen with him in a long time. If only he taught at my son's high school, he would not need a tutor. Outstanding!
