Experience

I am a certified math teacher (Certified through TEA in Mathematics grades 7th - 12th and Special Education grades K-12th) with over 10 years of tutoring experience. The last two years I have worked as a math teacher at NYOS Charter School, first teaching special education math, and then general 7th grade math. My first year, my students achieved a student pass rate of 96% on their math STAAR (much higher than the 72% statewide average). Subjects I have taught: 6th grade math 7th grade math 8th grade math (Pre-algebra) 9th grade math (Algebra 1) 10th grade math (Geometry) 11th grade math (Algebra 2) Before becoming a teacher, I tutored in many different settings: private tutoring with middle and high school students, volunteer tutoring in inner-city Chicago, and GED tutoring. I love tutoring because I love helping students see real improvement in their understanding! I believe that anyone can succeed in math if they're given the right tools. I enjoy helping all students, but I especially love helping students with learning difficulties. I love the challenge of breaking down difficult material so that it makes sense! Awards: National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist President's Award Dean's list - all semesters at Wheaton George Washington Academy Salutatorian, Class of '09

Hobbies

My favorite thing to do is dance! I grew up dancing ballet and contemporary dance. But in the last few years, I've gotten very much into partner dances: all the ballroom dances and all varieties of swing dancing - especially lindy hop! In college, I traveled and competed in lindy hop competitions around the Midwest! Check out this video of some of the best lindy hoppers in the world!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9xxeWRxSbA
